Willows High School

Year 7 girls awarded a bronze medal for gymnastics

For six weeks prior to the Cardiff Games Gymnastics Competition a team of Willows High School students have been training hard.

Partnerships were formed with Sport Cardiff and Jason Wink, head coach at Somersault Gym. Jason has constructed floor routines, perfected the girls vault technique and ensured that the girls were up to competition standard. Jason did all of this for no cost and as a school we are forever grateful to him.

The competition day was tough; schools from across Cardiff had gathered at the CCYC to display their talent and take home a medal. Willows High School entered two teams; a year 7 girls and an under 14 category. Each girl had to individually perform two floor routines in front of the judges and perform two vaults. After all schools had performed the students took their seats to hear the announced victors. The staff, coaches and students of Willows High School were elated to hear the news that Willows under 14s category had been awarded a bronze medal and a place in the regional competition where they would represent Cardiff and Vale.

The event was filmed by Made in Cardiff; footage of the competition can be found at the following link. http://www.madeincardiff.tv/player/?video_uuid=bck0kptx&categoryId=70407
